4 PUV drivers test positive for drugs in Iloilo

Four Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers in Iloilo City tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise drug testing operation led by LTO 6 on Tuesday.

The random drug test under 'Oplan Harabas' covered 156 PUV drivers at two transport terminals, including taxis, tricycles, and mini-buses.

LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan II stated that the operation aims to reduce major vehicular accidents during peak travel seasons such as Semana Santa.

The positive cases included one taxi driver, one tricycle driver, and two mini-bus drivers who are undergoing confirmatory testing with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

With the Holy Week underway, several deaths have been recorded from vehicular accidents in Iloilo City and province alone.

LTO-6 Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu emphasized their commitment to promoting a drug-free transport system throughout Western Visayas for public welfare.
