4 mayoral candidate supporters killed in Basilan gunfight

Four supporters of a mayoral candidate were killed in a gunfight with rival supporters in Hadji Mohammad Ajul town, Basilan, on Sunday morning.

The incident caused panic among residents and prompted officials from the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the multi-sector Basilan Provincial Peace and Order Council to confirm the event.

Brig. Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the Army's 101st Infantry Brigade, dispatched a peacekeeping team to separate the conflicting groups.

Police Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of PRO-BAR, is leading an investigation to determine who initiated the conflict for prosecution.

The 101st Infantry Brigade has jurisdiction over Basilan's 11 towns and two cities, including Hadji Mohammad Ajul where the incident occurred.
