17 Filipino crew repatriated after Yemen attack

All 17 Filipino crew members from the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier MV Magic Seas, which was attacked by Houthi rebels in Yemen on July 6, have been safely repatriated.

The seafarers arrived home with six arriving on July 11 and the remaining eleven landing at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Saturday night, July 12.

Each returning crew member received financial assistance worth P75,000 from DMW’s AKSYON Fund and OWWA’s Emergency Repatriation Fund, as well as PHP10,000 each from DSWD.

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac welcomed the seafarers at NAIA Terminal 3, commending them for their bravery during the incident and providing immediate assistance including health checks and training vouchers from TESDA.

The government agencies provided comprehensive support including full medical check-ups and psychosocial counseling to aid in the recovery and reintegration of the seafarers.
