Water festival marred by fight, injuries

San Juan City held its annual Wattah Wattah Festival on June 24, 2025, honoring the Feast of St. John the Baptist.

The festivities included traditional water dousing in designated "basaan zones" along Pinaglabanan Road and around the Pinaglabanan Shrine from 7 AM to 2 PM.

Revised safety measures under City Ordinance No. 14, Series of 2025, prohibited the use of dirty water, water bombs, high-pressure hoses, and splashing water outside designated areas or targeting vehicles, including opening car doors to splash drivers.

A liquor ban was in effect from 12:01 AM to 2 PM, with violators facing a P5,000 fine or up to 10 days in jail.

A fight broke out between two groups during the festival, resulting in broken glass bottles and injuries.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while first aid was provided to those injured.
