Discaya escorted to Cebu for flood control mess trial
Contractor Cezarah Discaya and nine others face non-bailable charges of graft and malversation in connection with a P96.5 million alleged ghost flood control project in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
Discaya was arrested by the NBI and flown to Cebu, as the arrest warrants were issued by a designated graft court in the city, the Regional Trial Court Branch 27 in Lapu-Lapu City.
She also appeared at the Department of Justice for the preliminary investigation of P7.18-billion tax evasion complaints filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue before being returned to NBI custody.
The BIR complaints allege that the construction companies of Discaya and her husband Curlee failed to pay income, excise and documentary taxes from 2018 to 2021.
The DOJ expects a resolution on the tax evasion cases next week.
Two of the eight Department of Public Works and Highways engineers involved in the flood control project also arrived in Cebu.
The PNP is conducting a nationwide manhunt for the remaining co-accused.
