VP Sara thanks Sen. Imee Marcos for probe into ex-President Duterte's arrest

Vice President Sara Duterte thanked Senator Imee Marcos for initiating a discussion on alleged irregularities surrounding the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Senator Marcos submitted a chairman's report to the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) requesting an investigation into the arrest of former President Duterte and his turnover to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The report, based on findings by the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, labeled Duterte's arrest as 'politically-motivated' and uncovered acts by high-ranking government officials that may constitute criminal and administrative offenses.

Senator Marcos formally recommended the filing of administrative and criminal charges against Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Philippine National Police Chief P/Gen. Rommel Marbil, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Director M/Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

She requested that these officials, all named in the report, be investigated, prosecuted, and/or sanctioned.

The former president was arrested on March 11 and turned over to the ICC to face charges of crimes against humanity, and is now detained in The Hague, Netherlands.

Vice President Duterte expressed her desire for charges to be filed against those responsible for what she termed the 'abduction' of former President Duterte.
