VP Sara Duterte raises alarm over ex-President Duterte's alleged poor conditions at ICC

Vice President Sara Duterte expressed grave concerns over the "troubling conditions" of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, while under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

She claimed that the ICC can no longer "secure" the former president, citing information that he was found unconscious on the floor of his room and had to undergo laboratory tests.

VP Duterte highlighted that the family was not informed of this "accident" and received no explanation, raising fears about the ICC's capacity to ensure his safety and security.

She alleged that the ICC has persistently ignored the former president's need for a 24-hour caregiver and has been slow to address even basic medical needs.

Nicholas Kaufman, counsel for the former president, confirmed that Duterte had reported several incidents of falling in his cell to him.

The Vice President asserted that the continued detention of former President Duterte under these conditions is unjust, inhumane, and amounts to punishment without conviction.

ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah stated that the court "takes all necessary measures for the preservation of physical and psychological wellbeing of all detainees."
