VP Sara Duterte questions Marcos Jr. on alleged lawmaker corruption, accountability evasion

Vice President Sara Duterte criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for allegedly allowing lawmakers to evade accountability amid allegations of corruption and budget irregularities.

She expressed concern that public funds might have been used by lawmakers to purchase properties and jets, both locally and abroad, which she believes is evident in their lifestyles.

Duterte specifically questioned the administration's sincerity in investigating the "flood control mess," citing Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez and Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.

She alleged that Romualdez was allowed to resign from his House leadership post and Co was allowed to leave the country while facing accusations.

Duterte suggested that the flood control probe and recent House leadership changes were preparations for the 2028 presidential elections.

The Vice President further questioned why Romualdez was not detained at the House and why Co could not be brought back to the Philippines from abroad.

Duterte also alleged that the Office of the President was involved in the kidnapping of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
