Volunteer firefighters assaulted while responding to Port Area fire

Two volunteer firefighters were assaulted by residents while responding to a fire in Port Area, Manila.

One of the volunteers stated they were beaten with dos por dos (2x2 lumber) because they were waiting for a water supply that had not yet arrived.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region reported that at least 13 fire trucks responded to the blaze, which started at 1:28 p.m. in Barangay 650 and was declared out by 2:22 p.m. after reaching the second alarm.

The injured volunteers intend to file charges against their attackers.

Information regarding the fire's cause and damage cost has not yet been released by authorities.
