Vietnam SEA Games mandates COVID-19 vaccination for athletes and coaches

Athletes and coaches participating in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi are now required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Vietnam SEA Games Organizing Committee announced the mandatory vaccination policy during a recent virtual meeting attended by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino.

Despite the vaccination requirement, the Games are still scheduled to proceed from November 21 to December 2.

Tolentino emphasized that the policy is for the safety of all participants and noted that most Southeast Asian countries have already vaccinated their athletes.

The POC has requested priority vaccination for the delegates from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and is open to any vaccine brand.

The Philippines, which topped the previous SEA Games in 2019, plans to send 626 athletes to this year's event.

National Sports Associations (NSAs) have been informed to identify potential delegates for the vaccination drive.
