Vico Sotto: Admiring wealth of officials signals corruption

Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto urged the public to challenge the culture of admiring wealth displays from government officials and those linked to tax-funded projects, highlighting it as strong evidence of normalized corruption in the Philippines.

Sotto emphasized that such displays of wealth should be seen as abnormal and not inspiring, particularly when connected to contractors of government projects.

The mayor stated that public officials are bound by a code of ethics that prohibits the ostentatious display of wealth, regardless of its source.

He further stressed that corruption must be made repulsive and unacceptable to society.

This statement follows public criticism against alleged children of lawmakers and contractors who showcased lavish lifestyles after their families secured billions in flood control projects.
