Veloso family asks SC to speed up cases vs recruiters

The family and supporters of Mary Jane Veloso have urged the Supreme Court to expedite her cases against her alleged recruiters and traffickers pending before the Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija Regional Trial Court Branch 89.

The pending cases involve human trafficking, estafa, and violation of the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act.

Veloso's parents submitted a letter to the Office of the Court Administrator, requesting that the court allow Mary Jane to testify via hearings at the Correctional Institution for Women.

These hearings have faced repeated postponements, causing anguish to her mother, Celia.

Mary Jane, an overseas Filipino worker convicted of drug trafficking in Indonesia, returned to the Philippines in 2024 after serving 14 years in prison, nine of which were on death row, and remains in detention.

The family has also appealed to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for clemency, hoping she can return home before Christmas.
