UST nears sweep of UAAP tennis titles
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is nearing a double championship in the UAAP Season 86 tennis tournaments after winning the first ties of both the men's and women's Finals.
In the women's division, the UST Female Tennisters defeated the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, 3-1, inching closer to ending a six-year championship drought and securing their first-ever win against NU in the Finals.
NU, the defending back-to-back champion, previously had a clean record in the Finals against UST.
UST senior Alexei Santos highlighted the significance of the win, stating it will boost their confidence.
The UST Male Tennisters gained an advantage in their series by defeating the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 3-2, as they aim for a back-to-back men's title.
The second ties of the championship round are scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at the Felicisimo Ampon Tennis Center.
