UAAP: No Angge Poyos, no problem for UST Tigresses
Star rookie Angge Poyos was sidelined from the University of Santo Tomas' (UST) game against the University of the Philippines (UP) in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament due to dehydration.
Despite Poyos' absence, UST secured a dominant win against UP with Jonna Perdido and Reg Jurado stepping up to score 24 points each.
Fill-in starter Xyza Gula also tallied 12 points, rookie middle blocker Mae Coronado chipped in 9, while setter Cassie Carballo scored 6 with 19 excellent sets.
UST coach KungFu Reyes confirmed that Poyos had been feeling unwell since Sunday and that her recovery is the team's priority.
The Tigresses also played without starting middle blocker Em Banagua due to an undisclosed knee injury.
Poyos is expected to return for UST's important match against Far Eastern University on Saturday.
Santo Tomas reclaimed the top spot in the standings at 10-1, a game ahead of La Salle and two games in front of National University.
