US firms offer millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses

Two American biotech firms, Moderna and Arcturus, are willing to supply the Philippines between four to 25 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccines.

Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez expressed hope that the Philippine government would consider these vaccines, with negotiations underway for Moderna's doses.

Moderna's vaccine has shown 94% effectiveness and is expected to receive emergency use authorization from US regulators soon.

Arcturus Therapeutics stated that its vaccine, ARCT021, which uses messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, would be available by the latter half of 2021.

Both companies utilize messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, a novel approach previously not used in human vaccines until the development of the Pfizer-BioNTech inoculation.
