US eyes deeper PH ties beyond security

The United States, under the new Trump administration, aims to deepen its relationship with the Philippines beyond security, seeking stronger economic and developmental ties.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo at the Munich Security Conference to discuss strengthening the alliance.

Discussions included reaffirming US commitment and exploring increased economic cooperation in areas like infrastructure, critical minerals, IT, and energy.

The two nations also addressed ongoing coordination to counter China's destabilizing actions in the South China Sea.

This diplomatic engagement follows a recent phone call between Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. and US Secretary Pete Hegseth to bolster defense cooperation and deterrence in the SCS.
