US Coast Guard ship visits Palawan to boost maritime cooperation

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stratton completed a four-day visit to Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, aimed at strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

During the visit, the USCGC Stratton and PCG personnel participated in technical consultations, community outreach, and sports competitions to improve interoperability.

U.S. Ambassador Marykay Carlson highlighted the significance of the Stratton's visit as the sixth cutter exchange since 2019, emphasizing the strong bond between the US and the Philippines.

Two PCG members served as onboard observers during a portion of the Stratton's transit from Guam, gaining practical experience in various shipboard operations.

Following its Palawan stop, the Stratton will participate in an at-sea exercise in the Sulu Sea with the PCG and Philippine Navy, focusing on maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and environmental protection.

The USCGC Stratton will then proceed to Japan for a trilateral coast guard exercise with the Philippines and Japan.
