UP Maroons dominate Adamson Lady Falcons in UAAP opener

The UP Fighting Maroons began their UAAP Season 86 women's basketball campaign with a commanding 92-61 victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Captain Justine Domingo led the Maroons with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Marielle Vingno and Christie Bariquit added 13 points each.

Despite an early 4-8 deficit, UP surged to a 31-17 lead by the end of the first quarter and maintained control throughout the game.

The Fighting Maroons extended their lead to as much as 35 points in the final quarter.

UP's defense forced 26 turnovers, converting them into 23 points, contributing to their dominant performance.

The Lady Falcons were led by Victoria Adeshina with 14 points and 19 rebounds, supported by Elaine Etang (13 points) and Cris Padilla (10 points).

UP played without rookie Louna Ozar, who was participating in the Asian Games with Gilas Pilipinas Women.

Head coach Paul Ramos was pleased with the team's performance, seeing it as a positive start and a sign of their growing maturity.

The Maroons will next face the University of the East on Wednesday, October 4, while the Lady Falcons will play the University of Santo Tomas on the same day.
