PNP investigates bomb threats vs UP Diliman and Manila campuses

The University of the Philippines (UP) campuses in Diliman and Manila received bomb threats, prompting investigations by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The threats, which included red-tagging allegations and specific building targets, were disseminated via social media and email.

Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered intelligence and cybercrime units to trace the origins of the threats and vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Security measures have been intensified in academic communities, and the PNP is collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and telecommunications companies to address such incidents.

The UP Office of the Student Regent questioned the timing of the threats, suggesting a connection to upcoming protest actions.
