UK PM warns NHS could be overwhelmed in two weeks

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned that the country's National Health Service (NHS) could be overwhelmed by the coronavirus pandemic within two weeks, drawing parallels to the situation in Italy.

Johnson stressed the urgent need for collective action to slow the spread of the virus, stating that failure to do so would likely result in the NHS being similarly overwhelmed.

He highlighted that Italy, despite having a superb healthcare system, has seen its medical professionals completely overcome by the demand.

To mitigate the risk, Johnson urged Britons to stay at home, emphasizing that the most significant gift they could give on Mothering Sunday was to protect their elderly parents from the dangerous disease.

Earlier, Britain had advised 1.5 million individuals identified as high-risk to remain indoors to safeguard themselves from severe illness if infected with coronavirus.
