UE Red Warriors upset DLSU Green Archers, end defending champs' streak

The University of the East (UE) Red Warriors defeated the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers, 75-71, handing the defending champions their first loss of the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament.

UE established a strong early lead, outscoring La Salle 28-11 in the first quarter, though the Green Archers narrowed the gap to 42-38 by halftime.

A late surge from La Salle, led by JC Macalalag, Mike Phillips, and Kevin Quiambao, erased a 59-71 deficit with 2:59 remaining, pulling them within two points at 71-73 with 28.4 seconds left.

However, reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao missed two clutch free throws with 15.8 seconds left that could have tied the game.

John Abate sealed the victory for UE with two free throws with 4.4 seconds remaining, while also leading UE with 20 points.

Wello Lingolingo contributed 18 points for UE, who secured their second consecutive victory to improve to 2-2, while La Salle slipped to 3-1.

Kevin Quiambao scored 17 points and Mike Phillips added 16 points for the Green Archers.
