UAE sends food aid for typhoon and monsoon victims

The Philippine government has received a planeload of food aid from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for victims of typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.

A 747-200 cargo plane carrying the donations arrived Tuesday night, July 30, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

This marks the first delivery of its kind from the international community.

The relief goods were dispatched by the UAE government, headed by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to aid the Philippines' recovery efforts.

The National Capital Region was placed under a state of calamity following the typhoon's onslaught, which submerged parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Key officials present at the turnover ceremony included DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Alqattam Alzaabi, and Special Envoy Ma. Anna Kathryna Yu-Pimentel.

The aid comprised various food items, including milk powder, wheat flour, rice, cooking oil, lentils, peas, dates, oats, pasta, and canned goods.

Special Envoy Yu-Pimentel conveyed gratitude to the UAE leadership, noting that the First Lady's recent visit strengthened bilateral relations.
