Typhoon Julian intensifies, Signal 4 raised over Batanes, Babuyan Islands

Typhoon Julian (Krathon) has intensified, with PAGASA raising Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4 over Batanes and the northern portion of Babuyan Islands, specifically Babuyan Island and Calayan Island.

These areas are expected to experience violent winds with speeds of 118 to 184 km/h within 12 hours, posing a significant to severe threat to life and property.

The typhoon, moving west at a slightly slower 10 km/h, has maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h and gustiness of up to 190 km/h.

PAGASA stated Julian was already over the coastal waters of Balintang Island, Calayan, Cagayan, and is expected to pass very close to Balintang Island and Batanes.

A landfall scenario over these areas remains likely, and even without landfall, the typhoon will be at its closest to Batanes and Babuyan Islands from Monday morning to afternoon.

Signal No. 3 is hoisted over the rest of Babuyan Islands and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana), where storm-force winds of 89 to 117 km/h may pose a moderate to significant threat.

Signal No. 2 covers mainland Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte, expecting gale-force winds of 62 to 88 km/h that may pose a minor to moderate threat.

Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over several other provinces including Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, parts of Nueva Ecija, and Polillo Islands.
