Two Filipino survivors from sunken MV Gulf Livestock 1 arrive in PH

Two Filipino survivors from the sunken MV Gulf Livestock 1, Chief Officer Eduardo Sareno and A/B Jay-nel Rosales, have arrived in the Philippines.

They were received by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) after being rescued separately by the Japan Coast Guard.

Sareno was rescued on September 3, while Rosales was rescued on September 6, and both were initially hospitalized in Japan before awaiting repatriation.

The MV Gulf Livestock 1, carrying 5,867 cattle, capsized in early September due to engine trouble amidst a typhoon in the seas of Southern Japan.

The ship, which departed New Zealand on August 14, sent its last distress call on September 2.

The vessel had a crew of 43, including 39 Filipinos, two Australians, and two New Zealanders.
