Two Cebuano priests appointed to Vatican diplomatic service

Pope Francis has appointed two Filipino priests from Cebu to significant positions within the Vatican's diplomatic service.

Monsignor Jan Thomas Limchua has been assigned as the Counselor of the Apostolic Nunciature in the Kingdom of The Netherlands.

Father Hezron Jhud Cartagena will serve as an Attaché of the Apostolic Nunciature of Ivory Coast.

Msgr. Limchua has prior experience serving in the Vatican's Section for the Relations with States and as a Papal Chaplain.

He also previously served in diplomatic roles for the Holy See in Benin, Togo, and Egypt.

Fr. Cartagena completed a missionary year in Brazil and is the fourth Cebuano priest to join the Holy See's Diplomatic Service.

This appointment follows Pope Francis's previous assignments of two other Cebuano priests, Archbishop Osvaldo Padilla and Archbishop Francisco Padilla, to apostolic nuncio roles in Korea and Guatemala, respectively.
