Trump claims US has contained coronavirus, offers aid to China

President Donald Trump stated that the United States has successfully contained the coronavirus threat within the country, while also offering assistance to China, though Beijing has not yet accepted the help.

The US has implemented restrictions barring entry to foreign nationals who have recently visited China and will direct US citizens returning from China to designated airports for screening.

National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien noted that China has been more transparent about the virus than in past crises but has not accepted US offers of expertise from the CDC and other health professionals.

The Group of Seven (G7) leading industrialized democracies are planning a conference to establish a unified procedure for addressing the coronavirus outbreak.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo mentioned that CDC officials are in Kazakhstan to aid in preventing the virus's spread, given its proximity to China.

The coronavirus outbreak has resulted in 350 deaths in China and at least 171 cases in more than two dozen other countries, with a ninth case confirmed in the US.

Mandatory 14-day quarantines will be enforced for Americans returning from Hubei Province, the virus's epicenter, while others returning from mainland China will undergo screening and self-quarantine.
