Truck driver in fatal crash tests positive for drugs

The driver of a 10-wheeler truck involved in a fatal multi-vehicle collision on Batasan-San Mateo Road has tested positive for illegal drug use, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The truck driver, identified as "Eruel," was arrested following the May 28 incident, which resulted in three fatalities and was initially attributed to brake failure.

A drug test administered by the QCPD Forensic Unit confirmed the presence of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as 'shabu,' in the driver's system.

However, an alcohol breath analyzer test conducted by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) yielded a negative result.

No illegal drugs or paraphernalia were discovered in the truck during an inspection.

Eruel will now face charges for violating the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act, in addition to the existing complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides, physical injuries, and damage to property.
