Tropical Depression Wilma strands 4,631 in 55 ports nationwide

Tropical Depression Wilma has caused 4,631 individuals, including passengers and essential workers, to be stranded in 55 ports nationwide as sea travel is disrupted.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson Capt. Noemi Guirao Cayabyab stated that a significant number are located in the Matnog port area.

Currently, PCG teams are monitoring 65 ports where stranded passengers are taking shelter, with 9,000 personnel and floating assets mobilized.

The PCG is also intensifying pre-departure and vessel safety inspections to assess the readiness of crews and ships.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that 56 families or 128 individuals from Agusan del Norte are staying in evacuation centers.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts Wilma to potentially make landfall or pass close to Eastern Visayas or Dinagat Islands.

Wilma is expected to move across the Visayas and may pass over northern Palawan before exiting into the Sulu Sea.
