TRB orders NLEX to explain expressway flooding

The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has issued a show-cause order to NLEX Corporation, demanding an explanation for the flooding on its expressway segments that stranded motorists.

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) specifically wants NLEX Corp. to explain the hours-long stranding on July 21 due to flooding at the Balintawak and Valenzuela portions, despite prior directives to prepare for the rainy season.

The TRB may impose administrative sanctions on NLEX Corp. and could potentially order a toll holiday on the affected expressway segments.

NLEX Corporation has already responded to the TRB on Friday, July 25, stating they are in close coordination with their regulators.

The toll operator is also implementing proactive risk-mitigation efforts, including drainage system cleaning, roadside clearing, constant monitoring of river water levels, and ensuring the readiness of dewatering equipment.
