TRB eyes barrierless toll plazas in 2-3 years

The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) aims to implement barrierless toll plazas within two to three years by developing a policy document.

TRB executive director Alvin Carullo stated that significant preparations are still required, including technology upgrades and coordination among toll operators.

The TRB is drafting the policy framework in close partnership with toll operators.

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) is already installing an Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system across its toll plazas, which is expected to be ready for testing by August and enable contactless toll collection and interoperability among different expressways before the year ends.

San Miguel Corp. is also preparing for its transition and is in the process of securing a provider for its own barrierless system.
