Teacher shot dead by husband inside Leyte classroom

A 39-year-old kindergarten teacher was fatally shot by her husband inside a classroom at Agbanga Elementary School in Matalom, Leyte, on Wednesday morning.

The 49-year-old suspect gained entry to the school, which lacks a security guard, by pretending to be a delivery rider.

After an argument, the victim sought refuge in a co-teacher's classroom, but the suspect pursued her and allegedly fired shots, killing her.

The victim had previously filed a complaint against her husband for violation of Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.

The suspect fled the scene and was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head inside their bathroom.

This incident marks the second school shooting in Leyte this month, prompting the Department of Education - Schools Division of Leyte to condemn the violence and order enhanced security measures.
