TD Verbena flashfloods displace over 3,000 in Bacolod City

Tropical Depression Verbena triggered severe flashfloods in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, submerging houses and displacing over 3,000 individuals or more than 900 families who are now in evacuation centers.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with some areas experiencing chest-deep floods and others with roof-high water levels.

Philippine Red Cross rescuers utilized rubber boats to navigate flooded streets and assist residents stranded on their rooftops.

Twenty-six barangays were flooded due to heavy rainfall, with areas like Barangay Mandalagan experiencing river overflows into residences.

In Barangay 39, some residents remained on their roofs awaiting rescue, while a few houses in Barangay 40 were swept away by the floodwaters.

Residents expressed distress over lost belongings and lack of immediate assistance, with some lamenting the storm's impact following a previous typhoon.
