Task force recommends interim committee for PhilHealth

A government task force investigating alleged corruption at PhilHealth has recommended the formation of an interim management committee to oversee the state insurer's operations during the ongoing probe.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra stated that this measure is crucial due to apparent systemic problems that might persist if individuals with vested interests remain in their positions.

The Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG), under the Office of the President, is recommended to establish this interim committee as part of PhilHealth's structural reorganization.

The GCG will also be in charge of selecting the members of the interim committee who will take over PhilHealth's operations.

The task force's probe is now focused on "centers of fraud" within PhilHealth, including its financial management, information technology system, the Interim Reimbursement Mechanism, and the Legal Sector.

Guevarra noted that the Legal Sector seems to be one of the biggest sources of allegedly fraudulent activities.
