Carl Tamayo, LG Sakers one win away from KBL title

The Changwon LG Sakers, led by Filipino import Carl Tamayo, are now one win away from capturing the Korean Basketball League (KBL) championship after a dominant 80-63 victory over the Seoul SK Knights in Game 3, giving them a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven finals series.

Tamayo contributed 18 points, six rebounds, and a steal in Game 3, but struggled in Game 4 with only seven points and seven rebounds in their 73-48 loss, which prevented a sweep.

Egyptian import Assem Marei was a key player in Game 3 with a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds, alongside contributions from Yang Junseok who had 14 points and eight assists.

A victory on Sunday would have made Tamayo a KBL champion and given him his second championship overseas, following his B.League title with the Ryukyu Golden Kings in 2023.

Tamayo aims to become the next Filipino to win a Korean championship since Rhenz Abando achieved the feat two years ago.

Despite his individual performances, Tamayo stated he is not focused on individual accolades and only wants to help the team win the championship.
