Taduran, Obiena, Ramirez lead PSA top achievers for May

Boxer Pedro Taduran was named the top achiever for May by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) for successfully defending his IBF minimumweight title.

Taduran won via split decision against Ginjiro Shigeoka, who sustained an acute subdural hematoma during their rematch held in Osaka, Japan on May 23.

Pole vaulter Ernest John "EJ" Obiena secured his third consecutive title at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, clearing 5.77 meters.

Annie Ramirez earned her second title at the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Amman, Jordan, by defeating Galina Duvanova in the women's -57kg category.

The Philippine weightlifting team also performed well at the IWF World Youth and Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, bagging a total of 16 medals.

Jhodie Peralta was a standout performer in the weightlifting competition, winning three gold medals in the Women's Youth 55kg class.
