Taal Volcano sees fewer quakes, SO2 emissions

Volcanic earthquakes at Taal Volcano decreased to 71 in the past 24 hours, lower than the 101 recorded previously.

Sulfur dioxide emissions also declined to 59 tonnes on February 12, down from an average of 67 tonnes the day before.

Weak emission of steam-laden plumes, measuring 50 to 100 meters tall, continues to be observed.

Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Taal Volcano.

Entry into Taal Volcano Island and surrounding areas within a seven-kilometer radius is strictly prohibited.

Local government units are advised to assess areas outside the seven-kilometer radius for damages and to strengthen preparedness measures.
