Taal volcano remains on alert level 2 amid decreased unrest

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 2 (decreased unrest) due to continued weak volcanic activity.

Phivolcs recorded 32 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours, a decrease from the previous day's 69.

Weak emission of steam-laden plumes continues to rise between 50 to 100 meters high.

Phivolcs warned that at Alert Level 2, sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, ashfall, and lethal gas accumulations can occur.

Entry into Taal Volcano Island, the Permanent Danger Zone, remains strictly prohibited.

Precautions are advised due to ground displacement across fissures, frequent ashfall, and minor earthquakes.

Phivolcs stated that the alert level may be lowered to Alert Level 1 if a continuous downtrend in volcanic activities is observed for two weeks.
