Taal Volcano remains at Alert Level 3, over 3,000 evacuated

Phivolcs maintained Taal Volcano at Alert Level 3 due to magmatic unrest, a phreatomagmatic plume, high sulfur dioxide emissions, and short phreatomagmatic bursts.

More than 3,000 individuals or 1,000 families have been evacuated from their homes in Batangas as of Sunday morning due to the unrest.

Of these, over 400 families are staying with relatives, while the rest are in evacuation centers.

The government has sent family food packs and family tents for affected residents in evacuation centers, with P10-million in financial assistance also dispatched.

Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon also have evacuation centers ready to accept evacuees from Batangas.

Phivolcs warned that the entire Taal Volcano Island is a Permanent Danger Zone and entry into the island, as well as into high-risk barangays, must be prohibited.
