Taal Volcano registers intensified earthquakes and tremors

Phivolcs reported an intensification of volcanic earthquakes and tremors at Taal Volcano in Batangas over the past 24 hours.

In its latest bulletin, the agency recorded 55 volcanic earthquakes and nine volcanic tremors, with one tremor event ongoing since the previous day.

This follows a Jan. 3 report of 25 volcanic earthquakes and six tremors, and an earlier Jan. 1 count of 51 earthquakes and 13 tremors.

A brief lull in seismic activity was noted on Jan. 2, with no detections.

Volcanic earthquakes originate from magma-related processes, while volcanic tremors are continuous seismic signals lasting over a minute.

Overall, December showed lower activity, with 101 volcanic earthquakes and 26 tremor episodes logged.
