SWP urges PBBM to veto P319B questionable items in 2026 budget

Social Watch Philippines (SWP) is urging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to veto P319.04 billion in questionable items from the ratified 2026 national budget.

SWP alleges that these items, including last-minute insertions and lump-sum appropriations, represent a return to the pork barrel system and were made outside public scrutiny.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, however, described the budget as a landmark 'people-first' measure prioritizing education, health, and agriculture.

SWP expressed disappointment over non-transparent side meetings and major adjustments made during the bicameral process, which they believe undermine transparency and accountability.

The group asserts that these actions deepen public distrust in the government's commitment to a just and fair budget for all Filipinos.
