Spox: More cops deployed to COVID-19 surge areas

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced that an increased police presence in areas experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases is now a national policy.

The directive was issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and is to be implemented by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

This policy aims to monitor areas of concern, particularly in light of the recent surge in Metro Manila.

Barangay tanods will also augment police efforts by looking out for mass gatherings and reminding the public about proper social distancing and mask/face shield usage.

The Philippines has recorded a total of 47,769 COVID-19 cases, with over 3,700 new cases reported on March 11 alone.
