Comelec gun ban checkpoints start in Metro Manila

The Southern Police District (SPD) and Las Piñas City Police have begun enforcing Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints as the election period and gun ban officially started on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

The gun ban, prohibiting the carrying of firearms in public places without proper authorization, is in effect from January 12 to June 11, 2025.

In Las Piñas City, 20 checkpoints were established across its barangays, with authorities emphasizing strict implementation of the gun ban.

Southern Police District Director Brig. Gen. Manuel Abrugena and Las Piñas Comelec officer Atty. Datumama Macaindig led the kickoff of the checkpoint installations in the city.

Violators of the gun ban face penalties including imprisonment, disqualification from public office, loss of voting rights, and deportation for foreigners.

The SPD, which covers Muntinlupa, Taguig, Makati, Pasay, Las Piñas, Parañaque, and Pateros, urges public cooperation for a secure and orderly election process.
