South Korean Olympic gold medal coach Ryu Su Jeng to lead PH archery team

Philippine archery has high hopes following the arrival of acclaimed South Korean coach Ryu Su Jeng, who has a track record of coaching national teams to multiple Olympic gold medals.

Ryu Su Jeng, who previously coached South Korea to two Olympic golds in Rio 2016 and three in Tokyo 2021, is now leading the Philippine team's preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.

She has expressed confidence in the team's potential, aiming for medals in the SEA Games and Asian Games, with aspirations for the quarterfinals and eventually a medal in the Olympics.

Ryu chose to coach the Philippines despite offers from China and Mexico, signaling her belief in the potential of Filipino archers.

Her recruitment was facilitated by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick Gregorio and World Archery Philippines (WAP) president Bing Reaport, who are optimistic about her impact.

If her tenure is successful, Ryu may continue to train the Philippine team for major international competitions including the 2026 Asian Games, 2027 World Youth Archery Championships, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
