Song of the Fireflies bags Best International Feature Audience Award at Newport Beach Film Festival

The Filipino musical film "Song of the Fireflies," starring Morissette, has won the Best International Feature Audience Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California.

This recognition marks another milestone in the film's successful festival run, which began last March when it swept five awards at Hollywood's Manila International Film Festival.

The latest victory boosts "Song of the Fireflies" ongoing Golden Globe campaign, where it has been submitted by producer Culturtain Musicat for consideration in several categories.

These categories include Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language, Best Director (King Palisoc), Best Screenplay (Sarge Lacuesta), Best Original Song ("Alitaptap"), Best Actress (Morissette), and Best Supporting Actress (Rachel Alejandro).

The film, inspired by the true story of the Loboc Children's Choir, follows a devoted teacher, Alma Taldo (Morissette), from Bohol who guided rural children to global recognition.

It was screened in two Newport Beach cinemas, supported by the Filipino community, the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles, and the Department of Tourism (DOT).
