Capital1 Solar Spikers optimistic after successful PVL draft

The Capital1 Solar Spikers are optimistic about their upcoming Premier Volleyball League campaign after a successful rookie draft, aiming to improve from their previous 11th place finish.

Head coach Roger Gorayeb expressed satisfaction with the team's picks, particularly Leila Cruz, Roma Doromal, and Jenya Torres, believing they will significantly help the team, especially in weak positions.

The Solar Spikers secured De La Salle standout Leila Cruz as their second overall pick, followed by Roma Doromal and Jenya Torres in later rounds.

Gorayeb highlighted the need for height and blocking ability at the opposite spiker position, which he believes Cruz will provide, reinforcing the team's frontline.

Team owner Mandy Romero echoed the coach's enthusiasm, describing the drafted players as their "wish list" and a "force to reckon with".

The trio will make their league debut when the Solar Spikers face the Akari Chargers on July 18.

Leila Cruz pledged to give her best effort for the team that offered her a significant opportunity.
