Korail to operate and maintain MRT-7

South Korea's national railway operator, Korea Railroad Corp. (Korail), has entered into an agreement with SMC MRT-7 Corp. to provide operational and maintenance services for the upcoming MRT-7.

Korail will assist in setting up operational systems, safety protocols, and maintenance programs for the MRT-7.

Their engagement will commence in July 2025, with the Korean firm extending technical support for operations and maintenance in the long term.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang stated that the partnership brings the project closer to its goal.

The MRT-7 project has experienced delays primarily due to right-of-way issues, but trains are expected to be running and tested by the end of this year, with full operations targeted for 2026.

Korail president and CEO Han Moon-hee expressed certainty that the success of MRT 7 will become a role model for Philippine railway projects.
