Korean fugitive arrested in Pampanga for illegal streaming service

A South Korean fugitive, identified as 55-year-old Kim Jongsik, was apprehended in Pampanga for allegedly operating an illegal Korean language streaming service in the Philippines.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) fugitive search unit arrested Kim on August 6 at his residence in Barangay Sto. Niño, Angeles City.

Kim is detained at the BI facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, and has been placed on the immigration blacklist while awaiting deportation proceedings.

He is wanted in South Korea for violating copyright law, with an arrest warrant issued by the Busan district court in October 2022.

Interpol issued a red notice in November 2022 after Kim's criminal indictment for allegedly operating a streaming service that offers movies and entertainment shows obtained without copyright permission.

Subscribers to the illegal platform were reportedly charged P4,000 every three months.

The BI had already ordered Kim's expulsion in 2023 for being an undesirable alien.

Kim arrived in the Philippines in April 2019 and has not departed since.
