Shaina Nitura sets rookie debut scoring record with 33 points

Rookie Shaina Nitura set a new scoring record for a rookie in a debut game with 33 points as Adamson University rallied from a 0-2 set deficit to defeat Ateneo de Manila University, 21-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-12.

Nitura's 33 points, comprised of 28 attacks, 4 blocks, and 1 ace, surpassed the previous rookie debut record of 31 points set by UST's Angge Poyos last season.

She also matched Angela Benting's record for most points in a game by an Adamson player.

Nitura, who also scored 8 points in the fifth set, stated that she reminded herself to be composed after a slow start and urged her teammates to 'wake up,' which she felt was pivotal to their comeback.

Fellow rookie Frances Mordi contributed 23 points for Adamson.

The victory gives Adamson a 1-0 start to the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament, while Ateneo begins with an 0-1 record.
