26 feared dead as Bicol grapples with Kristine damage
Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has caused the deaths of 26 people in the Bicol region, with nine injured and three reported missing, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 5.
The fatalities were reported across Naga City, Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Sorsogon.
Causes of death have been attributed to drowning, landslides, and accidents.
As of Friday morning, 314,309 people or 106,303 families in the Bicol region were evacuated.
The police also recorded 22 landslide incidents across the region.
A total of 4,303 passengers were stranded at seaports after 26 trips were canceled, and eight flights were also canceled in the region.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has ordered the full mobilization of military assets for relief operations for the victims of the cyclone.
