Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has caused an agricultural damage of P1.69 billion, affecting 42,346 farmers and 37,590 hectares across multiple regions in the Philippines.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported that rice accounted for the majority of the loss, with 104,198 metric tons affected, alongside damages to corn, high-value crops, livestock, and agricultural facilities.
Initial reports indicated P80.8 million in damages, with significant losses in Bicol and MIMAROPA, and P2.6 million in Northern Luzon.
Despite 70% of crops being harvested before the storm, the DA has lowered its rice production projection for the year.
The DA is mobilizing P531.72 million in agricultural inputs for distribution and has access to an additional P1 billion from the Quick Response Fund.
Financial assistance will also be provided through the Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.
A field evaluation will be conducted once weather and other conditions permit.
Severe Tropical Storm Kristine exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday but may loop over the West Philippine Sea.
